Our bass player Frankie Z tells us how it is:
The lord helps those that help themselves…and it is indeed the
case where this album is concerned. What is the difference between
plagarism and theft, inspiration or plundering? Once the lines had
been well and truly and most deliberately smudged… the fun begun .
This album for me was one of the most creative processes I’ve ever
been involved in . From the moment the name 'Shoplifting for Jesus' was
half -consciously muttered it was seized upon and given life, and this
really set the tone for the creative process - people,in a room, being
encouraged to create - a blank page,a computer screen, waiting for audio
- a guitar,a keyboard - and some extraordinary characters.
Then, more people arrive, and enjoy, and they too participate. Bez
is in town...he’s got to catch a plane in the morning,where’s he gonna
go when he’s in London? He comes down to Jamm and ends up on the intro
to 'We Stole the Moon' drummer Johnny D meets Lois Winstone, she pops
by and sings backing vocals on 'Abide with me' and the intro to John
Sinclair. She tells her Dad - and blimey ,suddenly we’ve got Ray
Winstone on the opening track 'Nightmare' ..it’s all going very well.
It doesn't stop there ...Martina Cole is next up bringing a much needed
edge to 'Who the fuck is John Sinclair ?'
Tallulah Boom raps on 'Saved' and 'Let's go out 2nite', from the
USA MC Russell Jordan takes the first verse on 'It’s about that time'.
Now we can’t stop ‘em... Rob from Ireland's Cold Comfort, Proud Mary
“we’re from the south of the bridge” chant Major Dee and Rhia Creole
....the list goes on……
