We are very sad to announce the departure from Alabama 3 of our much loved bass player Frankie Zapatista aka Segs.

Segs has been  with the band since the recording of "La Peste" in 2000  following an illustrious history in the music industry, which most notably included playing in one of the U.K's most influential punk bands, The Ruts.
He has also worked with Ali Love, Edwyn Collins, Mad Professor, Aztec Camera, Mike Scott, Kirsty Macoll, Joe Strummer, Rat Scabies, Mick Jones, Splogenessabounds, The Beatles, Tony Visconti, Vic Goddard, and many others during his long career.
Most recently, Segs has been concentrating on producing other new artists and has just completed an album with the fantastic Ali Love (http://www.alilove.co.uk).

Rock Freebase described Segs as "a true gentleman, a superb musician and a dear friend."

"John Jennings aka Frank Zappatista  aka Segs ( formerly of the Ruts) has recently been “made an offer that he can’t refuse”.   As  legendry Punk Rock, Acid House, Reggae impressario it is not surprising that at the tender age of 51 he has been kidnapped by dark forces representing the cutting edge of musical production, ie  Steve “Dub” Jones- He of the Chemical Brothers Mix Fame.

While Alabama 3 accept this kidnapping as somewhat inevitable, bearing in mind his qualifications righteousness, and damn good all round Eggness (and the fact that he is now a Superstar Producer) we have one message for these hostage takers,
“ He can check out anytime he likes but he can never leave.”

Segs remains our favourite base player and has promised to remain in contact with us via satellite phone from his villa in Mustique.  If we need him, we’ll nick him."
